That Dream Job: could be yours

General No Comments »

Could that dream job you have always wanted be yours? The answer is yes, if you know how to get it. Timing and preparation are the key elements to obtaining this goal in life. When done correctly, you will be on your way.

Being prepared when an opening becomes available is just one of the crucial steps to obtaining your goal. Once you know where you wish to be and with what company, find out as much as you can about them. Knowing their business structure and their chain of command will tell an interviewer you are prepared. But before the interview, make sure you practice.

To be properly prepared for the interview, practice in front of a few friends that will give you constructive criticism. At the same time, tape each episode. At first this might seem silly but after a few times, you will see an improvement on the tapes when they are reviewed. For most people, about 5 to 6 sessions of this type of practice will bring the best results. If you are unsure if you are ready or not, do another session and look to see if there are still areas that need improvement. You know you are ready when you observe the tapes and do not notice anything that you wish to change about your presentation.
Timing of your interview is another important part of this process. Attempt to send in your resume near the middle of the application acceptance time or near the end. The reason being is that most of the time, one of the last two individuals that are interviewed end up with the position. This is because they are still fresh in the minds of the interviewer when the decision on who to hire is being made.
Follow these two helpful tips to get that dream job you always wanted.

Landing Your Dream Job: see thru the fog

General No Comments »

Do you see landing your dream job like viewing out the window on a foggy day? Many people do and until the fog is cleared, not much progress can occur.

The best way to clear the fog is to set out the path you wish to follow. You cannot expect yourself to follow a path that is just in your head. So, the first step would be to write down your goals and how you think they can be achieved. Do not worry about having every detail down intact and correct with the first draft. Just get it started and in writing. Editing it can happen later.

Once you have a path out of the fog in writing, take a look at it. Do you have the experience and qualifications to achieve your goals? If you do, you can then proceed. If not, then evaluate your options. You can either get the necessary qualifications by going back to school or change your goals so they are more realistic.

If you are already employed, both options are open. Since you have the money to pay the bills, you can take your time and enroll in night classes to get the appropriate qualifications to obtain the position you desire. For those that need employment immediately to support themselves, then night classes may have to be delayed or the goals reevaluated.

Being realistic on your chances of landing your dream job is essential to achieving it. Do not shoot for the moon if you can find happiness at home.

Dream Job: more than just a fantasy

General No Comments »

Getting that dream job you have always wanted takes more than acquiring the type of work you wish to do. The company you will be working for has to have certain qualities to make the working environment a healthy place to be.

When you are going for an interview, one of the questions you should ask is why the position is open. Listen to how the answer is given. If the interviewer is vague, they might not really know or they are trying to hide something. The tone of their voice and the way they react when you ask this question will give you a hint to the right answer. If they say that the last person left for personal reasons, this could be a warning sign. If it was because of the work environment, this could spell disaster for your future career.

Most people think there is a dream job for them. In reality, there are good jobs and great jobs, but each one has it faults. Look for the faults with the company. When noticed, determine if you can live with them or should seek employment elsewhere.

Be careful with companies that have recently downsized. Many times, new positions were created by combining two previous positions. This might be too much of a work load and the reason the two that held the positions are not currently doing the tasks.

Another point that should be brought out in an interview is if there is any chance for advancement with this position. Most jobs have advancement opportunities, but not all of them do. Ask this as a direct question and look at how it is responded to.

Go into your dream job interview with your eyes open so you can see the whole picture and determine if this will be a good or great opportunity for you.

Get That Dream Job: you deserve it

General No Comments »

To get that dream job you deserve, you must stand out from the competition without being annoying. First and foremost, never use bright neon color paper for your cover letters or resume. These are immediate rejections and get filed in the trash bin without any thought of even looking at them.

Use normal fonts and symbols on all correspondences and your resume. There are a good deal of options in all word processing programs; this does not mean you need to use all of them. Many of these fonts look nice but are difficult to read. If you make it difficult for the recipient of your cover letter and resume, it will also be filed in the trash receptacle upon arrival.

At the end of your resume, do not list your references. It is a given that they will be available upon request. Let those that are really interested in hiring you to request them. Make sure you have them ready and warn your references who might be calling them so they can be prepared.

Most companies and head hunters go through hundreds of resumes as part of their job on a daily basis. Just like with a news release, grab their attention with short and precise information. This is when bullet points are more preferred than complete sentences, so use them.

Give the reader enough information to want more. This should include some data on your past performance and the duties you have successfully performed. Explain what you did in short, direct words. As an example, if you were in charge of the safety committee state more than the obvious and include the reduction of accidents that occurred during your term and the programs you initialized.

In order for you to get that dream job, you have to go after it aggressively without being pushy and avoid the common mistakes to make yourself stand out amongst the crowd.

Get the dream job: practice before the interview

General No Comments »

To get the dream job you have always wanted, you must be prepared. This entails more than just having a properly constructed resume and cover letter, but these two things are also a must.

One of the biggest mistakes a prospective employee makes is not practicing their answers that will be asked of them during an interview. The best way to prepare for this is first by compiling a long list of possible questions that may be asked. This list should include questions about your past work experience, education, and past achievements both professional and personal. Most interviews only last approximately a half hour to an hour. Keep the answers in the section precise and accurate but not too lengthy. 20 minutes should be your aim. This will leave time for you to express your knowledge of the company you are interviewing with.

Your knowledge of the company you wish to be hired by is very important. Be able to talk about what you know for 5 to 10 minutes at a minimum. Make sure the information you will be stating is accurate. If it is outdated, then you will be doing more harm than good.

To observe yourself can be very helpful. To accomplish this, video tape your practice sessions. After each taping, look at your body language and listen to your tone of voice. Look for things that could turn off any prospective interviewer. The most common factor that is looked at by an interviewer is if there is any bitter resentment towards a past employer. Even if it is true, avoid coming across with this in your message.

Practicing the interview several times for a few days, if possible, before the scheduled meeting is the best way to be prepared for you to get the dream job you have always wanted.

Get The Perfect Dream Job: doesn’t mean you have to change corporations

General No Comments »

To get the perfect dream job is the goal of many workers in America. Many of those already with a job are hesitant to go after what they want due to the economic recession the country is in. This part is wise, but you should still never give up on your dreams.

There is a word of caution for those making a plan to find other employment in your search for that dream job, do not let your current employer know about it. All employers have schedules and workloads that must be completed. To do the necessary tasks, they hire employees. If they have an employee that is known to be actively looking for another place of employment, then they must be proactive and find a replacement for them. It could be financially devastating to be replaced before you are ready to make your move. Because of this you should not let it become common knowledge that you are seeking other employment.

For many, that dream job exists in the present corporation they are already employed by. This is the only case when you will let it be known to your current employer of your plans that you are looking for a change or advancement to that position.

Many corporations encourage this type of transfer. There is less training involved than hiring a new employee and they actually know about the person that is already employed by them. If you are well liked and respected at your current position, many supervisors will even assist you in achieving your goals of acquiring your dream job within their organization.

The path to get the perfect dream job can be a complex course of events, but if properly planned, you can achieve it.

Dream Jobs: what is your dream

General No Comments »

The dream jobs that are available on the market today are numerous. It all depends on what specifically is your dream job.

Things that need to be thought about when you are considering how to get your dream job are what kind of job it specifically is, where it is located, and do you have the right qualifications for it. All of these factors weigh in on whether you will be happy with what you think your dream job is.

The easiest part is know what you think is your dream job. By making a list, you can discover what you think is important and interesting to you. This should be a realistic list. If you went to school and became a lawyer, your dream job should not be an astronaut. If it is, then it’s time to retrain and join the military. Be realistic in what you think you like.

Location is a large part of obtaining and holding a dream job. Most people only spend a third to half of the working week on the job, the remainder is your off time to live. If you love to snow ski, then a job in the Rockies would suit you better than on the plains. Consider what is really important to you. If you are one of those professionals that live their job, then location might not be that important, but it is for most.

Do you have the necessary skills to seek employment for your dream job? Look at your work history and schooling. If you chose your career path correctly when you were younger, you should have the right qualifications. If not, night classes could help you achieve your goal.

It is all in your perspective of what you consider to be dream jobs. Know what you want first.

Get a Dream Job: sell yourself

General No Comments »

To get a dream job that you have always wanted or desired is possible for everyone if done correctly. The first step is to know what you want. This is when you start to write down a list of what particular jobs you desire to have.

After you have started to compile this list, keep in mind that you must be qualified to perform the tasks of your dream job. Just because the word dream is in the title does not mean fantasy jobs should be considered. For this reason, your list should be made up of tasks and duties you have already preformed and are qualified to do.

Once you know what you want to do, look at the people in the profession. Observe how they dress, their mannerism and what makes them tick. Decide if you could be like them. Interviewers in general hire someone like themselves. To sell yourself to them, you must be like them. This is all a part of getting hired. If you do not like that particular type of person, you may want to reconsider your choice in jobs or career.

Once all this is decided on and set, selling yourself will be the final determining factor on getting the dream job of your choice. Convince any interviewer that it is in their and their company’s best interest to have you as an employee. Do your research on every company where you will have an interview. Know their strong points and have a way to assist them with their weak points. The best way to sell yourself is to have a battle plan that will make you an asset for any company wise enough to hire you. This is how to get a dream job you desire to hold.

Get Your Dream Job: remember desperation kills

General No Comments »

There is a lot of help on the internet on how to get your dream job. What most of them neglect to say are things you should avoid that could kill any prospect of obtaining your dream job.

The biggest killer of all times is if, for any reason or in any way, you act desperate. This can occur at any step in the process of looking for a job. Have a friend review your cover letter. It should sound like it comes from a well educated individual that is confident in themselves and their abilities. One of the wrong things to say in a cover letter is if you express that you are willing to do anything the company asks of you. This is a given if you were to be hired so do not re-emphasize it.
During an interview, act confident with your body language and the words you use. Keep in the back of your mind that the company you are applying for need you more than you need them. Do not be arrogant about it, just confident.
One approach that has been used, even if it’s not true – for the moment, is assuring that you can solve the problems the company you are interviewing with has. In time and if you are hired, you will be able to help solve their problems, so you are not actually lying.
After the interview, remember to follow up on it. Some people send a thank you note or email expressing how you appreciated them taking the time to interview you. Include at the end “if you need anything else from me to further assist in the filling of the position, please let me know”. This again needs to be worded correctly or it may be interpreted as being desperate.
To get your dream job, always be confident and soon you will have the employment you seek.
